About the Competition
The competition was established in 2020 and is held annually. The organizer of the competition is Stream Dance Company and its host is the State Opera – Stara Zagora in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. The artistic director of the competition is Filip Milanov, a Bulgarian choreographer working in the field of contemporary dance and performance and owner of Stream Dance Company.
The first two editions are held in digital format. The first live edition takes place in 2022. Over 150 choreographers from all over the world enter the competition annually, from which 10 finalists are selected to present their live performances to an audience and a jury. Each year the awards include prizes awarded by the jury and the audience, as well as special prizes.
Rules & Regulations
The 4th International Choreographic Competition LINKAGE is for young choreographers (not more than 40 years old) to present their contemporary dance solos or duets with duration between 5 and 13 minutes.

Deadline for applications: 5th of September 2023
The 4th edition of the competition will take place on 27-30 of October 2023 in The State Opera – Stara Zagora, Bulgaria. Organization: Stream Dance Company, Bulgaria.
General rules:
– The competition is for young choreographers and/or dancers.
– Eligible applications include contemporary dance solos or duets with a duration between 5 and 13 minutes.
– The choreographer can participate as a performer in his or her own piece.
– Deadline for applications: 5th of September 2023.
– The pre-jury will select 10 choreographer to take part in the competition.
– The approved candidates will be notified no later than 10.09.2023 by email.
– The accommodation for the 4 days of the competition is covered by the organizer.
– Travel costs and daily expenses are not provided.
– Each participant will have no longer than 60 min. for rehearsal on stage and light set up.
– Minimum lighting requirements are allowed.
– Stage: Black box, 10 m x 10 m
Competition schedule:
27.10 (Friday) – arrival at Stara Zagora, Bulgaria
28.10 (Saturday) – stage and technical rehearsal of the first half of the finalists
29.10 (Sunday) – stage and technical rehearsal of the second half of the finalists and COMPETITION NIGHT
30.10 (Monday) – GALA EVENING

Jivko Jelyazkov – Choreographer and Artistic Director of Derida Dance Company
Willy Prager – Choreographer and Co-founder of Antistatic Festival for contemporary dance and performance.
Prizes:
1st place – 6000 BGN
2nd place – 3000 BGN
3th place – 2000 BGN
Audience award – 1000 BGN
Special awards*:
– Residency program in Derida Dance Center – Sofia, Bulgaria – handed by the artistic director of Derida Dance Company – Jivko Jelyazkov
– Invitation for leading a workshop with professional performers
– Call for performance of the presented choreography, for a fee, in other cities in the country.
– Invitation for choreography of a new piece for a Bulgarian dance company
* Special prizes are given at the discretion of the jury members, regardless of the official ranking in the competition. Special prizes are not necessarily awarded.
